Strokes that affect the left and right side of the brain- whats it called?
if a person has a pretty good stroke..with it being on the left side of the brain which affects memory loss,details,speech,attention,ect..then also showed signs of right side damage which entails physical aspects such as muscle weakness,visual,loss of control of certain functions..and recovered within a year for the mostpart,with the left side functions of some still needing some improvement..what kind of stroke is that called..just a regular stroke..or does it have a special name?
"Bilateral" is the term you're looking for if there were two strokes, each affecting one side of the brain.
If there was only on stroke in the left hemisphere and the swelling was enough to cause the left hemisphere to reach over the midline, it's called a "stroke with mass effect".
I'm not sure what you mean by "left side functions". Do you mean the left side of the body, or the left hemisphere? You can email me, if you'd like.
